Qualifications

Karen Kerkhoff Gromada, MSN, RN, IBCLC currently works as a lactation consultant for TriHealth hospitals in Cincinnati, Ohio. In addition to lactation consultant experience in hospital and outpatient settings, she has served as an adjunct clinical instructor at the University of Cincinnati, College of Nursing and worked as a staff nurse in labor and delivery, childbirth education and early postpartum discharge care. While completing a Masters of Science in Nursing degree in mental health nursing, she trained as a nurse-psychotherapist.

A La Leche League leader since 1975, she formed the first LLL group for mothers of multiples in 1977. She is the author of Mothering Multiples: Breastfeeding and Caring for Twins or More (LLLI), a co-author of Keys to Parenting Multiples (Barron’s). The editor and a co-publisher of DoubleTalk: Quarterly Newsletter for Parents of Multiples during the 1980-1990s, she was an original “Double Focus” columnists for TWINS Magazine. Her articles on parenting multiples and breastfeeding have appeared in numerous professional and consumer publications. Well known as a speaker on various topics related to breastfeeding and parenting multiple-birth children, she especially enjoys presenting to nurses, lactation consultants and parent groups.

Ms. Gromada is a member of the International Lactation Consultant Association and served as association President from 1994-1996. She is a member of Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nursing (AWHONN) and Sigma Theta Tau International, an honor society for nurses. She also is active in local chapters of La Leche League, March of Dimes, and local breastfeeding advocacy coalitions: Tri-State Breastfeeding Advocates and Resolving Infant Sleep Controversies Safely (RISCS).
